Paul Trueman is a fictional character from the British BBC soap opera EastEnders, played by Gary Beadle. He first appeared on Albert Square in April 2001, when he visited his brother Anthony and their mother Audrey upon being estranged from them for some time. Paul was portrayed as a bad boy who was a member of the already-established Trueman family. In his exit storyline, Paul became a drug dealer, which Beadle has been critical of as he suggested it played into black, racial stereotyping. It was implied that Paul was killed upon his exit, though his death was not screened.
According to, Paul was driven away from Albert Square after getting in too deep with drugs. In a similar way to Vincent’s final scenes back in 2018, viewers knew Paul was being driven away to be murdered. Paul asked the hitman pretending to be a taxi driver to ‘make it quick’ and a month later, Patrick attempted to get in contact with his son but discovered he had been killed and was asked to identify his body.
In 2021, EastEnders revisited the shocking death of Patrick Truemans son Paul, as Isaac had an unsettling realization. Long-term fans of the show will know that Paul was murdered back in 2004, after getting caught up in the criminal world of gangster Andy Hunter.
