Peggy Schuyler, born Margarita Schuyler, died on March 14, 1801, at the age of 42. She became ill in 1799, and her condition worsened quickly over the next two years. Peggy was the third daughter of Continental Army General Philip Schuyler and the wife of Stephen Van Rensselaer III. She was also the sister of Angelica Schuyler Church, Philip Jeremiah Schuyler, and Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton, and sister-in-law of John Barker Church and Alexander Hamilton. Peggys passing was documented in a letter from Alexander Hamilton to his wife Eliza, who was Peggys older sister. Peggy and her husband had three children, but only one, Stephen Van Rensselaer IV, lived to adulthood. Initially buried in the Van Rensselaer estate, Peggy was later reinterred to Albany Rural Cemetery at the Van Rensselaer lot.
