Peter Sutcliffe, also known as the Yorkshire Ripper, was a British serial killer who murdered 13 women and attempted to murder seven more in Yorkshire and north-west England between 1975 and 1980. He was sentenced to life imprisonment in 1981 and spent three decades at Broadmoor Hospital before being moved to HMP Frankland in County Durham in 2016. Sutcliffe had several long-term physical health conditions, including Type 2 diabetes, impaired vision, angina, and paranoid schizophrenia. He died on November 13, 2020, at the University Hospital of North Durham due to Covid-19. According to a report by the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman, Sutcliffe was restrained with chains for many hours before his death.
