Prince Andrew is a member of the British royal family who has been embroiled in scandal over his friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and a related sex assault allegation. He was stripped of most of his titles and removed from royal duties due to the scandal. In January 2023, a federal judge in Manhattan ruled that a civil case related to the sexual abuse accusations against Prince Andrew could proceed, and he was subsequently stripped of his military titles and royal patronages. He is no longer allowed to use the title "His Royal Highness" and has been effectively banished from the royal family. Despite this, he has continued to draw attention due to his presence at some public events, including his mothers funeral. In December 2022, it was reported that Prince Andrew had written to the Home Office and the Metropolitan Police to complain about losing his police protection and no longer being able to use his suite of rooms at Buckingham Palace. In December 2022, it was also reported that Prince Andrew is no longer welcome at Buckingham Palace and cannot use offices or staff on the orders of his brother, King Charles III. Despite this, he is still allowed to live in a house on the Windsor estate and was expected to be invited to Christmas dinner. As of September 2023, Prince Andrew is not expected to return to royal duties.
