After Order 66 was executed, Rex escaped with his life but was considered killed-in-action in the eyes of the new regime. Ahsoka helped to free Rex from the programming of his inhibitor chip, which allowed him to operate in the shadows and help any clone brothers who remained separate from the Imperial ranks. The last viewers see of Rex in The Clone Wars is his worn face after burying his fellow clones. The follow-up series, Star Wars Rebels, provides a lot of insight into what he was doing in the age of the Empire after Order 66. Rex set up a new home on Seelos, meeting up with Wolffe and Gregor, the former clone commander and captain respectively. Both Wolffe and Gregor had also removed their inhibitor chips, and together the three clones lived in isolation during the rise of the Empire. Rex eventually retired during the reign of the Empire before the Spectres recruited him to join the Rebellion. He lived through the entire Imperial era and went on many missions for the Rebellion, including accompanying Jarrus, Bridger, and Garazeb Orrelios to Agomar on a supply run. One of Rexs highest-profile missions with the Rebellion came during the Battle of Endor, as a part of Han Solos strike team.
