Asim Jamil, the son of renowned Islamic scholar Maulana Tariq Jamil, passed away on October 29, 2023, in Punjabs Talamba. Initially, there were claims of an assassination, but Tariq Jamil later clarified on social media that it was an ‘accidental death’ . In a video message, Maulana Yousaf Jamil revealed that his brother had been struggling with severe depression since childhood and was undergoing electric shock therapy as part of his treatment. He mentioned that despite continuous efforts to support Asim Jamil, his mental health had deteriorated over the last six months. Maulana Yousaf Jamil further explained that his brother had taken his own life by seizing a gun from a security guard while he was alone at home on Sunday. The Regional Police Officer (RPO) Multan Sohail Chaudhary reported that Maulana Asim Jamil had sustained a gunshot wound to the chest. He added that CCTV footage showed the religious scholar’s son shooting himself in the chest while in the gymnasium at the time of his passing.
