Ted Bundy was executed by electric chair on January 24, 1989, at Florida State Prison. After his death, his brain was removed and a series of experiments were carried out to determine why he had carried out his horrific crimes. His body was then cremated, and his ashes were scattered on the same mountain where he had dumped several of his victims bodies. Bundys reign of terror began in 1974 when he broke into the basement of an 18-year-old student, beat her, sexually assaulted her with a metal rod, and left her in a coma for 10 days. He was finally caught, tried, and sentenced to death for the murder of two college students in 1979. Despite the appalling nature of his crimes, Bundy became something of a celebrity, particularly following his escape from custody in Colorado in 1977.
