Instagram’s new repost button hasn’t been removed globally, but it may be missing or seem to “disappear” for you for a few common reasons.
What the repost button is
- Since mid‑2025, Instagram has a built‑in Repost button that lets you reshare public feed posts and Reels directly to your followers’ feeds, with credit to the original creator.
- Reposts show on a separate “Reposts” tab on your profile (between Reels and Tagged) and are labeled as reposts.
Why it might be gone
- The feature is still being rolled out and sometimes only appears for certain regions, devices, or account types, so some users simply don’t have it yet or lose it temporarily during testing.
- Bugs or app glitches can temporarily hide the button for some users, and some people report it disappearing and then coming back later without changing anything.
How to get it back / check
Try these steps:
- Update Instagram to the latest version from the App Store or Google Play, then fully close and reopen the app.
- Log out and back in, or delete and reinstall the app to force‑refresh features on your account.
- Make sure your account and the content you’re viewing are public, since reposting only works for public accounts.
If you want to “remove” it
- You cannot completely remove the repost button from the app interface, but you can stop others from reposting your content by going to: Profile → Menu → Sharing → toggle off “Allow reposts.”
- If you accidentally repost something, tap the Repost button on that post again to undo it, or remove it from your Reposts tab.
