In 1991, Chris Eubank and Michael Watson fought for the WBO super-middleweight title. Watson was ahead on points and seemingly on the verge of a stoppage victory in round 11 when he knocked Eubank down with an overhand right. Moments later, Eubank was back on his feet and connected with a devastating uppercut, which caused Watson to fall back and hit the back of his head against the ropes. Watson suffered a near-fatal injury and his career was cut short as a result of the fight.
Chris Eubank has since expressed regret and apologized to Michael Watson for what happened in their fight. In a 2021 interview with Piers Morgan, Eubank broke down in tears when recalling the devastating fight he had with Watson 30 years ago. Eubank is still wracked with guilt and still struggles to comprehend what happened on the fateful night he fought Michael Watson.
