In 2019, Taylor Swift and Scooter Braun had a public feud over the ownership of Taylors first six studio albums, which were acquired by Braun when he purchased Big Machine Records. Taylor had left Big Machine Records and was unhappy that Braun was now in control of her work, especially since she had been trying to buy back her own masters herself. Taylor accused Braun of bullying and manipulating her for years, including through his client Kanye Wests release of the song "Famous". In response, Braun claimed that he was firmly against anyone ever being bullied and that he always tried to lead with appreciation and understanding. The feud continued with Taylor asking fans to let Braun and Scott Borchetta (founder of Big Machine Records) know how they felt about the situation. In August 2023, several high-profile clients of Braun, including Ariana Grande, Demi Lovato, and Justin Bieber, reportedly cut ties with him. Taylors fans theorized that this was indicative of trouble ahead for Braun. Taylor has since decided to re-record her albums and gain rights to her music.
