After taking an i-Pill, the medication works by preventing the production of hormones responsible for the creation and release of ovarian eggs (ovulation) . If the ovary has already released the egg, the tablet prevents the egg from fertilizing with the sperm. If fertilization has already happened, it averts pregnancy by interfering with the fertilized egg’s attachment process in the uterus. Some common side effects of taking the i-Pill include nausea, tiredness, headaches, stomach cramps, and irregularities in menstruation. Women may also experience intermenstrual spotting or bleeding, commonly known as withdrawal bleeding five to seven days after taking the i-Pill. Some users of the medication report experiencing pain, breast discomfort, melancholy, weight gain, and allergies.
