Having 45 chromosomes is a characteristic of Turner Syndrome, also known as 45 X Syndrome. Typically, most people have 46 chromosomes in 23 pairs, with 22 of these pairs being the same in both males and females. The 23rd pair is called the sex chromosomes, and these determine whether a person will be born with the physical features of a male (46, XY) or a female (46, XX). In Turner Syndrome, the most common chromosome configuration is 45, X, which means that the person is missing a sex chromosome, either an X or a Y. The effects of Turner Syndrome can vary, but some common symptoms include a short and webbed neck, low-set ears, low hairline at the back of the neck, short stature, and swollen hands and feet. Girls with Turner Syndrome dont have typical ovarian development, and they usually dont develop all the secondary sexual characteristics that usually happen in puberty. They are also infertile as adults, but advances in medical technology, including hormonal therapy and in vitro fertilization, can help women with this condition.
