In Islam, death is seen as the separation of the soul from the human body and its transfer from this world to the afterlife. The fate of the dying after leaving the body depends on whether they are believers or unbelievers. Depending on the state of the soul, the deceased will undergo different experiences. • Angel of Death: One canonical idea is that an angel of death (Arabic: Malak al-Maut) appears to the dying to take out their souls. The sinners souls are extracted in the most painful way while the righteous are treated easily.

• Barzakh: When a person dies, the soul enters the state of waiting, also known as Barzakh, until the Day of Judgement. This is the transition period between the world and the afterlife. It is a barrier or curtain between our world and the world of the dead. Even if the person’s body is burnt to ashes or is eaten by an animal, their life in Barzakh begins.

• Grave: After death, the family and Muslim community will conduct the Ghusl (full-body ritual purification) and then proceed to the Janazah (funeral prayer) . In the grave, the deceased will be questioned about their Lord, their religion, and their Prophet. Allah will keep firm those who believe, with the word that stands firm in this world and in the Hereafter.

• Judgement: In Islamic belief, death is predetermined by God, and the exact time of a persons death is known only to God. Death is accepted as wholly natural, and merely marks a transition between the material realm and the unseen world. Every person has only one chance to prepare themselves for the life to come where God will resurrect and judge every individual and will entitle them to rewards or punishment, based on their good or bad deeds.

• Afterlife: In Islam, death is seen not as the termination of life, rather the continuation of life in another form. Death is also seen as the gateway to the beginning of the afterlife. In Islamic belief, there are different levels of heaven and hell, and the exact nature of the afterlife is described in detail in the Quran and the Hadiths.
