The government has launched several schemes to provide food security to the poor. Here are two examples:

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP): This program provides nutrition benefits to supplement the food budget of needy families so they can purchase healthy food and move towards self-sufficiency. It is available to certain groups and low-income individuals.

Community Food Projects Competitive Grant Program (CFPCGP): This program is an example of NIFA Hunger & Food Security Programs that address hunger and food security at a community level. It is a systems approach that includes local infrastructure, economic and job security, federal food assistance, food recovery and donations, education and awareness, and community food production and marketing. The program provides grants to private nonprofits to address community food security issues.
Other government initiatives to address food security include the Gus Schumacher Nutrition Incentive Program (GusNIP), the National School Lunch Program, and the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) . The U.S. Governments Global Food Security Strategy is also an integrated whole-of-government approach that aims to end global hunger, poverty, and malnutrition. The government is advancing global food security by helping families and individuals meet their need for a reliable source of quality food and sufficient resources.
