Hermione Granger was sorted into Gryffindor house at the start of her first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Gryffindor students are known for their bravery, while Ravenclaw is known for its wit, Hufflepuff for its loyalty, and Slytherin for its ambition. Although Hermione had qualities of both houses, the Sorting Hat ultimately decided on Gryffindor. The Sorting Hat takes into consideration what house a student wants to go to, and it also sees traits that are far buried that become prominent. Hermione values bravery and friendship over books and cleverness, and she is more brave than witty. Even if there was a tie between Ravenclaw and Gryffindor when sorting Hermione to a house, Hermiones preference was Gryffindor. Ultimately, it was her place in Gryffindor that brought the infamous trio together and allowed the storyline to develop so well.
