2K resolution is a term used to describe display devices or content that have a horizontal resolution of approximately 2,000 pixels. The most common 2K resolution is 2560 x 1440, which is officially called Quad HD (QHD) because it contains four times the number of pixels as 720p. However, this resolution is also referred to as 1440p. In the movie projection industry, the Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI) defines a 2K format with a resolution of 2048 × 1080 as the dominant standard for 2K output. For television and consumer media, 1920 × 1080 is the most common 2K resolution, but this is normally referred to as 1080p. In terms of aspect ratio, 2K resolutions can vary depending on the application. For example, the DCI 2K native resolution has an aspect ratio of 1.90:1, while the DCI 2K CinemaScope cropped resolution has an aspect ratio of 2.39:1.
