In a motorcycle club, a "1 percenter" refers to a member of an outlaw motorcycle club. The term originated in 1947 after a motorcycle rally in Hollister, California, where the American Motorcycle Association (AMA) claimed that 99% of motorcyclists were law-abiding citizens, and the remaining 1% caused trouble at the event. Outlaw motorcycle clubs adopted the term "1 percenter" to describe themselves and their members. These clubs are considered part of the outlaw motorcycle club culture and make up less than 1% of all bikers in the US. The "1%" patch worn on the colors of some outlaw motorcycle clubs signifies their status as a 1 percenter club. Members of 1 percenter clubs are dedicated to biking and the brotherhood of their MC. Leaving a 1 percenter club can be difficult due to the strong bonds between members. The internal organization of a motorcycle club typically consists of a president, vice president, treasurer, secretary, road captain, and sergeant-at-arms.
