A bazaar is a marketplace consisting of multiple small stalls or shops, especially in the Middle East, the Balkans, North Africa, and South Asia. The term bazaar originates from Persian, where it referred to a towns public market district. The term souk comes from Arabic and refers to marketplaces in the Middle East and North Africa. The term bazaar is sometimes also used to refer collectively to the merchants, bankers, and craftsmen who work in that area.

Bazaars can be permanent or temporary open markets, and they sell a wide variety of goods, including food, electronics, clothes, and miscellaneous items. In some areas, bazaars are considered to be "the beating heart of the city and a symbol of Islamic architecture and culture of high significance". Today, bazaars are popular sites for tourists, and some of these ancient bazaars have been listed as world heritage sites or national monuments on the basis of their historical, cultural, or architectural value.

In addition to the traditional meaning of a marketplace, a bazaar can also refer to an event where people sell things to raise money, especially for an organization that helps other people. For example, a church bazaar is a sale of various articles, usually to raise money for a club, church, etc..
