A Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) is a professional with a certification in applied behavior analysis. BCBAs are independent practitioners who provide behavior-analytic services and may supervise the work of Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analysts (BCaBAs), Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs), and other professionals who implement behavior-analytic interventions. The BCBA certification is a graduate-level certification in behavior analysis.
To become a BCBA, one must complete the following steps:
- Earn a relevant bachelors degree
- Complete a relevant graduate degree program in behavior analysis
- Complete supervised practical experience
- Pass the BCBA certification exam
The BCBA certification exam covers analytical skills like measurement and experimental design, as well as client-centered responsibilities like assessment and intervention. The exam is a scaled score exam, and to pass it, one needs to achieve a passing score of 400 and above.
