A Bokken Jedi is a term used in the Star Wars universe to describe Jedi Padawans who were trained in the wild after the fall of the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. The term "Bokken" refers to a wooden training sword used for training in kenjutsu, and it implies that those trained in the wild are not considered real Jedi. The term encompasses all new Jedi after Episode III, and characters like Verla, Ezra Bridger, and even Luke Skywalker can be considered Bokken Jedi based on their training and circumstances. It is currently unclear whether the old Jedi Order used Bokken to describe certain members or if Baylan Skoll, a fallen Jedi, invented the phrase himself. While the term is not an official Star Wars designation, it is a subtle nod to the creator of Star Wars, George Lucas, who built much of the mythos and structure of the Jedi on Samurai legend, Japanese culture, and Akira Kurosawa films.
