A bosun, also known as a boatswain, is a member of the deck department on a ship. The bosun is responsible for supervising the deck crew of the vessel and overseeing the planning, scheduling, and assigning of work on the ship. The bosun is also involved in the maintenance of the ships equipment and facilities, including the hull, superstructure, and deck equipment. The bosun is responsible for ensuring that the mooring operations, anchoring, or the vessel is carried out efficiently. The bosun is generally the main tender driver and is responsible for organizing deck operations and supplies, as well as storage and use of toys and tenders. The bosun reports to the First Mate or Second or Third Officer, depending on the yacht’s size. The duties of a bosun can vary depending on the ships crew and circumstances.
