A burr coffee grinder is a type of coffee grinder that uses two revolving abrasive surfaces to grind up coffee beans, resulting in a more consistent grind size compared to blade grinders. The two abrasive surfaces are called burrs, and they can be adjusted closer or further apart to create a precise grind size. Burr grinders can be either manual or electric, with electric burr grinders being more convenient and able to handle a larger amount of coffee. There are two types of burr grinders: conical burr grinders and flat burr grinders. Conical burr grinders are the industry standard and use a cone-shaped center burr with an outer serrated burr to produce well-ground coffee. Flat burr grinders feature two donut-shaped burrs that face one another with very sharp edges, which allows the beans to stay between the burrs until they are perfectly ground up.
