A Camo Alert is a type of alert system in Texas that notifies the public of a missing current or former member of the United States armed forces who has a mental disorder, including post-traumatic stress disorder or a traumatic brain injury, and whose disappearance poses a credible threat to their health and safety or the health and safety of another. The Camo Alert program was created in 2019 by Texas legislation. To issue a Camo Alert, the following requirements must be met:
- Verification from the Texas Department of Public Safety that the missing military member is registered for the Camo Alert program.
- Confirmation that the individual reported missing is a current or former member of the United States armed forces, including the National Guard or a reserve or auxiliary unit of any branch of the armed forces, and that the individuals location is unknown.
- Confirmation that the missing person suffers from a mental illness, including post-traumatic stress disorder or a traumatic brain injury.
- Confirmation that the disappearance poses a credible threat to the military members health and safety or the health and safety of another.
If a military member from a Camo Alert is located, the public is advised to call 911 for help. The Camo Alert is one of eight kinds of alerts that can be issued for missing or endangered people in Texas.
