A candelabra or candelabrum is a candle holder with multiple arms that can hold several candles. The term candelabra comes from the Latin word candelabrum, which means a candle-tree. Candelabras have been around for quite a while, and they were an important household item before the advent of electricity. Nowadays, electricity has relegated candleholders to decorative use, but interior designers continue to model light fixtures and lighting accessories after candelabra and candlesticks. Candelabras can be made from solid gold, silver, or brass, but they are usually electroplated in these metals, and they can even come with different types of bases and columns made from other metal alloys. The most classical styles of candelabra are Baroque, Rococo, Gothic, and Georgian, and there are also modern and shabby chic styles. The term candelabra has also entered common use to describe small-based light bulbs used in chandeliers and other lighting fixtures made for decoration as well as lighting.
