According to the Misuse of Drugs Act, drugs are classified into three categories, Class A, Class B, and Class C, based on their potential harm to individuals and society. Class B drugs are considered to be less harmful than Class A drugs but are still dangerous substances. The most commonly used drug in the Class B category is cannabis, which was upgraded from a Class C drug in 2009. Other drugs that are classified as Class B include amphetamines, barbiturates, ketamine, mephedrone, and some amphetamines. Possession of a Class B drug can lead to a maximum sentence of up to five years in prison or an unlimited fine, or both.
