A dingo is a type of canine native to Australia. It is an ancient breed of domestic dog that was introduced to Australia approximately 4,000 years ago, possibly by Asian sailors, and it is believed to have originated from early varieties of domesticated dogs found in Southeast Asia. The dingo is a medium-sized canid with a lean, hardy body that is adapted for speed, agility, and stamina. Its three main coat colorations are light ginger or tan, black and tan, or creamy white. Dingoes are opportunistic carnivores and their diet consists mainly of mammals, especially rabbits, kangaroos, wallabies, and wombats. They also eat reptiles, insects, birds, and fruits. Dingoes are social pack animals and may live alone or in packs of up to ten animals. They roam great distances and communicate with wolf-like howls. The dingo is an animal that appears to play a minor role in the mythological and religious beliefs of some indigenous Australians. Despite looking like a domestic dog, the dingo is a wild animal and can be dangerous.
