A doppio coffee is a double shot of espresso extracted using double the amount of ground coffee in a larger-sized portafilter basket. This results in 60 ml (2.1 imp fl oz; 2.0 US fl oz) of drink, double the amount of a single shot espresso. The term "doppio" is Italian for "double" and is commonly used in Italy to order a double shot of espresso. In most cafes outside of Italy, a doppio is the standard shot. A doppio and espresso are made with the same ratio of coffee to water and have the same taste, aroma, and concentration of caffeine. The only difference is in the levels of caffeine, with a doppio containing more caffeine than a single shot of espresso. A doppio can be ordered from any café by asking the barista for one, and it can be made using the same process as a regular espresso, just with double the volume.
