A gender-neutral bathroom is a public restroom that is not separated by gender or sex. It can be used by a person of any gender or gender identity, and is often referred to as an all-gender bathroom. Gender-neutral bathrooms are important because they provide a safer and more welcoming space for people who may be transgender or may not identify with the male or female gender binary, by which public restrooms are often divided. They can also benefit people with disabilities, the elderly, parents who need to help their infant or young child with using the toilet, and anyone who needs the help of someone of another gender or sex. Gender-neutral bathrooms can be identified by signs that reflect that people of all genders are welcome in the facility, and sometimes include an amalgamation of the symbols usually shown on male and female bathrooms.
