The Guardian in Baldurs Gate 3 is a mysterious NPC that players must create at the end of the character creation pages. It is an additional, non-playable character that shows up in cutscenes during the dreams of the players main character, where its called the Dream Visitor. The Guardian plays a protective role, whose purpose is to keep players alive from their Mind Flayer parasite affliction obtained during the games opening cut scene. The Guardian is fully customizable, including body type, voice, facial hair, and more, but there is no class customization for the Guardian. The Guardian appears to the player in their dreams, at certain points in the game that appear to be triggered by using the Illithid abilities of the Parasite. The more players use their Illithid powers, the more interactions they can have with the Guardian. The Guardian is not a character that players can add to their Baldurs Gate 3 party, and it is not a character that players will ever fight or play as. The Guardians true purpose or reasoning for choosing the player is not revealed until the end of the game.
