Hama can refer to two different things:

  1. Hama is a city in west-central Syria, located on the banks of the Orontes River. It is the provincial capital of the Hama Governorate and the fourth-largest city in Syria after Damascus, Aleppo, and Homs. The city has a population of 854,000.

  2. HAMA is an acronym for Human Anti-Mouse Antibodies. Some humans produce HAMA and have it present in their blood. The presence of HAMA in patient samples can lead to false positive and false negative results in immunoassays. HAMA can also decrease the effectiveness of treatment or create a future reaction if the patient is given a subsequent treatment containing mouse antibodies. HAMA interferences can give false positive or negative immunoassay results.
