Hellenistic Judaism was a form of Judaism in classical antiquity that combined Jewish religious tradition with elements of Hellenistic culture. The term "Hellenistic Judaism" is a conventional one, long used, but a misnomer according to many contemporary scholars. Traditionally, "Hellenistic Judaism" was a designation for Judaism in the Greek-speaking world, including those Jews who spoke Greek and adopted (to some extent) a Greek way of life. It has been argued, however, that all Judaism after the conquests of Alexander was Hellenistic Judaism. The Hellenistic Jews were a group of Jews who spoke Greek and adopted Greek culture and ideas. They were called "Hellenists". Dissensions arose between the Hellenistic Jews and the Hebraic Jews, who prided themselves on the fact that they had always lived in the land of the patriarchs and used the language that their fathers spoke. The Hellenistic Jews appear in the Bible in Acts 6:1 and Acts 9:29, where they are referred to as "Grecians".
