A heretic is a person who differs in opinion from established religious dogma, especially a baptized member of the Roman Catholic Church who refuses to acknowledge or accept a revealed truth. The term can also be used more broadly to refer to anyone who has beliefs that are against the principles of a particular religion. In the past, heretics were often persecuted by religious authorities, and in some cases, were even put to death for their beliefs.
