Form I-9, officially known as the Employment Eligibility Verification, is a form used by employers in the United States to verify the identity and employment authorization of individuals hired for employment in the country. The form is mandated by the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 and is required for all U.S. employers to complete for each individual they hire for employment in the United States, including citizens and noncitizens. The form has two sections, and both employees and employers (or authorized representatives of the employer) must complete the form.
