A Kumari is a prepubescent girl selected from the Shakya clan of the Nepali Newari Buddhist community, worshipped as the living incarnation of the goddess Taleju or Durga. This tradition, rooted in Nepal, regards the Kumari as a divine living goddess who embodies the goddess's power and is revered by both Buddhists and Hindus. The Kumari lives a life of seclusion, only appearing publicly during special ceremonies, and her divine status lasts until she reaches puberty or experiences significant blood loss. The most famous Kumari is the Royal Kumari of Kathmandu, residing in the Kumari Ghar palace.
