A longère is a traditional French rural house that is long and narrow in shape, typically built along the axis of the land and oriented to suit prevailing winds and light. It is most commonly found in Brittany, Normandy, and other parts of western and northern France, and was historically used as a farmhouse or dwelling for agricultural workers and their families. Today, longères are often renovated or extended while preserving their characteristic rectangular, single-story (though many have been expanded to two stories) form.
