A mamba is a type of snake that is native to sub-Saharan Africa. There are four species of mambas within the Dendroaspis genus: the black mamba, the eastern green mamba, the western green mamba, and Jameson’s mamba. Mambas are fast-moving, agile, and highly venomous snakes. The black mamba, in particular, is one of the worlds deadliest snakes due to its large size, quickness, and extremely potent venom. However, mambas are generally shy and will almost always seek to escape when confronted. They are active diurnal hunters, preying on birds, lizards, and small mammals. The three green species of mambas are arboreal, whereas the black mamba is largely terrestrial. Mambas are feared throughout their ranges, especially the black mamba.
