A Mind Flayer is a creature from the Dungeons & Dragons fantasy role-playing game. They are monstrous humanoid aberrations with psionic powers. Mind Flayers are also known as Illithids. They are described as "a super-intelligent, man-shaped creature with four tentacles by its mouth which it uses to strike its prey." When it hits prey with a tentacle, the tentacle penetrates to the brain and draws it forth, allowing the monster to devour it. Mind Flayers are considered one of D&Ds most popular monsters. They are vile brain-eating creatures full of psionic energy. Mind Flayers are invaders of the worlds of D&D and they settle into dark places like the Underdark and subterranean realms. They are anti-sun and prefer to live in moist caverns and cities. Mind Flayers are classified as Aberrations which are otherworldly enemy types and most of those come from the Far Realms. They are also known as the "quintessential evil genius" and the "perfect evil overlord". The Mind Flayers main form, also known as the Shadow Monster, is a massive entity, looming at least 50 stories tall.
