A module in university is a self-contained component of a program or programs of study with defined learning outcomes, teaching and learning methods, and assessment requirements. It is a specific skill or knowledge area that is taught in a shorter period of time, usually lasting three to eight weeks. Modules are part of a modular structure that most higher education courses have, which allows students to build a personalized course by choosing modules or units of study from different subject areas. A module can consist of one or more courses and one or more examinations, and specific learning content is planned for each semester. Modules can function as standalone classes or be combined with other modules to build courses and earn degrees, certificates, and diplomas. The difference between a module and a course is that every course is broken down into two or more modules.
