In the Harry Potter universe, a mudblood is a highly derogatory term used to refer to either a Muggle or a Muggle-born or half-blood wizard or witch. It is a slur of prejudice used to refer to wizards and witches who are closely related to Muggles. The term is first used in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by Draco Malfoy to refer to Hermione Granger when he is showing off the Slytherin Quidditch team’s newly bought Nimbus 2001 broomsticks. The term is used extensively in the Ministry of Magic where loads of Muggle-born and half-blooded people are brought in for questioning. The term is considered a really severe insult and is used by blood purists to express their disdain for those with non-magical ancestry.
