A nasal stent is a thin, plastic tube that is inserted into the nostrils after a nose operation to keep the nostrils open while they heal. There are different types of nasal stents, but one example is the Propel sinus stent, which is a small, lightweight device that is implanted in the sinus cavity after surgery to help maintain the surgical openings. The Propel sinus stent is intended for use in patients 18 years of age and older following the functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) procedure. The stent is designed to gradually dissolve and release steroid medication directly to the sinus lining, which reduces inflammation and prevents the formation of scar tissue post-surgery. The Propel sinus stent can help keep the sinuses open, reduce the need for additional surgical interventions and/or the need for oral steroids, and improve outcomes following FESS. Nasal stents are the safest way of keeping the nostrils open while they heal, but they will need careful looking after in the months after the operation.
