A nibling is a gender-neutral term used to refer to a child of ones sibling, as a replacement for "niece" or "nephew". The term was coined in the early 1950s by Samuel Martin. It is not common outside of specialist literature, but it has gained popularity in recent years. The word is in fact entered in the Collins Dictionary, albeit as of 2012, and as a user-submitted term. The term is 25% related by blood, unless related by marriage.
