The A/G ratio test measures the ratio of albumins to globulins in the blood. The normal range for albumin/globulin ratio is over 1, usually around 1 to 2. The ratio can be interpreted only in light of the total protein concentration, and the normal range for total protein is 60 to 80 grams per liter (g/L) . If the A/G ratio is low, it could indicate kidney disease, liver disease, chronic infections, malnutrition, autoimmune diseases, certain cancers, or type 2 diabetes. If the A/G ratio is high, it could indicate dehydration, malnutrition, gastrointestinal conditions, or certain genetic disorders. A ratio of 1.1–2.5 is considered normal, and a ratio above 2.5 represents high albumin levels. A test result with a ratio less than 1 or more than 2.5 is considered bad and could indicate the presence of an ongoing disease or pathology in the body.
