In the National Football League (NFL), the highest official passer rating that a quarterback can achieve is 158.3, which is called a "perfect passer rating". The NFL passer rating formula includes five variables: pass attempts, completions, passing yards, touchdown passes, and interceptions. Each of those variables is scaled to a value between 0 and 2.375, with 1.0 being statistically average (based on league data between 1960 and 1970). When the formula was first created, a 66.7 rating indicated an average performance, and a 100+ rating indicated an excellent performance. A perfect passer rating requires at least a 77.5% completion percentage, 12.5 yards per attempt, 0 interceptions, and 11.75% of passes for touchdowns. A rating of 158.3 is considered a "perfect" passer rating since its the highest rating a quarterback can receive. As of the 2023 NFL season, there have been 65 different players, playing in 79 distinct games, who have achieved a perfect passer rating. Four of these games have occurred in the post-season. Eight quarterbacks have achieved the feat more than once: Ben Roethlisberger and Peyton Manning each have four; Kurt Warner and Tom Brady each have three; and Craig Morton, Dave Krieg, Ken OBrien, and Lamar Jackson each have two.
