A PET bottle is a type of plastic bottle made from polyethylene terephthalate, a clear, strong, lightweight, and 100% recyclable plastic. PET bottles are commonly used to store liquids such as water, soft drinks, motor oil, cooking oil, medicine, shampoo, milk, and ink. PET provides very good alcohol and essential oil barrier properties, generally good chemical resistance, and a high degree of impact resistance and tensile strength. PET bottles are lightweight, strong, and durable, meaning less packaging is needed to protect products, which lowers carbon emissions. PET bottles are also safe to use in food packaging, as well as in medical devices that are used inside the human body and personal protective equipment (PPE) used by medical workers and first responders. PET bottles can be recycled multiple times, and all PET plastic bottles can be recycled. PET bottles are easily recognized by the symbol that classifies them, a triangle of Mubius with three arrows representing the three steps of the recycling process and a number 1 inside.
