The most famous group of pilgrims in history were the English colonists who settled at Plymouth in 1620. They were called "Pilgrims" because they were a group of people who went on a long journey to a foreign land for religious reasons. The term "Pilgrim" became popular in the early 1800s to describe the Plymouth settlers.

Being a pilgrim is not about the number of pilgrimage sites someone has been to, nor is it a measure of ones spirituality. Rather, stepping out as a pilgrim is always about the spirit within our hearts. Being a pilgrim is all about a spirit of adventure and a willingness to discover Gods voice in your life. It is a lifelong adventure in which God is leading, and recognizing that you are a pilgrim is one of the very first steps to growing in your ability to grasp each day with a sense of wonder.
