A postpaid account is a mobile phone service provided by a mobile network operator, where the user is billed after the fact according to their usage. Here are some key features of a postpaid account:

  • Payment: Users receive services from cellular providers and are then asked to pay the bill at the end of the billing cycle. Postpaid accounts require a credit check and a contractual commitment, which is the basis on which the service provider is able to trust the customer with paying their bill when it is due and to have legal recourse in case of non-payment.

  • Billing: Users receive a monthly bill that tells them what charges theyve accumulated for the month. The bill might be the same each month or users might see extra charges if they went over their data for the month.

  • Contracts: Most postpaid providers require customers to sign long-term contracts committing to use of the service. Failure to complete the term would make the customer liable for early termination fees.

Postpaid accounts are different from prepaid accounts, which require payment in advance. Prepaid users can select any of the prepaid plans that meet their needs and recharge with add-on packs like top-ups as well as talktime top-ups if their prepaid plans are insufficient.
