A provisional psychologist is a person who has completed their tertiary qualifications and is in training to become a psychologist. The term "provisional psychologist" or "registered provisional psychologist" is a legally restricted term in some regions, meaning only individuals who have been approved by the relevant regulatory body can use it. Provisional psychologists practice as psychologists while under the supervision of a Psychology Board Approved (PsyBA) Supervisor. The supervisor reviews their work and provides guidance and support as they work towards full registration as a psychologist. The registration being provisional means that the psychologist will continually report to and be mentored by a psychologist with even more experience.
