In Pokemon Go, a Route is a pre-defined path that you can follow while exploring. These paths may be made by Niantic, official partners, or other Trainers. As you follow a Route, you may discover Pokemon, and the path will change color to show your progress towards completing the Route. Some Routes are able to be followed one-way only, while others can be followed in reverse or are a loop. Routes can be created by Trainers above level 40, and they can potentially offer bonus Pokemon spawns and Zygarde Cells while youre walking, along with a unique badge when you complete a Route. To create a Route, you need to visit a PokeStop or Gym, navigate to the Route tab in the menu, and select the starting point. Then, choose the Route endpoint, or tap "Select Later". With a start and endpoint for your Route set, begin walking from the start point towards the endpoint, and Pokemon Go will begin recording your Route. Once you hit the endpoint or set it manually, the Route will be saved and can be shared with the fan community.
