In Formula 1, a sprint is a shorter version of a normal race, taking place over a distance of approximately 100km or 62 miles. It was introduced in 2021 as a way to add more races to the annual calendar and to provide a new format to contrast the traditional grand prix weekend schedule. The sprint race is designed to provide a short and fast-paced racing spectacle, similar to a Twenty20 cricket match, with drivers racing flat-out from start to finish without the need to pit. The sprint race is the same length and format as 2022, equivalent to a 100km race, with points on offer for the top eight finishers. The winner picks up eight points, with five for second place, three for third, two for fourth, and one for fifth to eighth place. The sprint race takes place on Saturday, with qualifying held in the morning before the sprint race in the afternoon. The sprint race is followed by the Grand Prix on Sunday.
