A Sprint Shootout is a qualifying session that takes place on Saturday before the Sprint Race in a Formula 1 weekend. It is a standalone qualifying session that determines the grid for the Sprint Race itself. The Sprint Shootout follows the same three-session knockout format as usual qualifying, but each Q1, Q2, and Q3 segment has been shortened to 12, 10, and 8 minutes, respectively. The Sprint Race is a much shorter version of the Grand Prix, covering only 100km of the circuit hosting the event. The starting grid for Sundays Grand Prix is determined in the qualifying session held on Friday, and the Sprint Shootout and the Sprint Race do not impact Sundays Grand Prix. The Sprint Race is a condensed race that takes place over 100km, and unlike prior seasons, qualifying for the race takes place on the Saturday before the actual sprint. The Sprint Race offers fans more competitive action on Fridays and Saturdays, and drivers the opportunity to score more points.
